Need Tech Help?
Get Tech Help NowWhen I first started StuTech a couple of months ago, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Starting a business is always a leap of faith, and stepping into a niche like IT services for seniors? That felt like diving headfirst into uncharted waters. Would it work? Could I really make a difference? Would anyone even trust me with their technology?
Fast forward to today, and I can confidently say StuTech has not only worked—it’s become one of the most fulfilling chapters of my life.
Funny enough, the phrase “More Than Just Tech” has been bouncing around in my head a lot lately. Back in 2002, I started my first IT business called Just Technical Solutions. For five years, that name perfectly captured what we did: solid, reliable IT services for businesses.
But now, with StuTech, I realize this journey has become about so much more than the technical side of things. It’s about connection, community, and creating moments of trust and joy. While solving tech problems is at the core of what I do, the real rewards have come from the relationships I’ve built.
I’m still passionate about providing solutions—but these days, it’s not just technical. It’s deeply personal.
One of the best parts of running StuTech has been getting to know my neighbors, many of whom started as customers but have quickly become friends. Every visit feels like a reunion with a long-lost family member. Everywhere I go, I’m greeted with a warm smile and a drink offer—whether it’s coffee, water, or, in Doug’s case, a cold beer or some of his famous moonshine. (Doug’s hooch should probably come with a warning label!)
These small gestures are more than hospitality—they’re a testament to the trust and relationships that have formed through this work.
When I started StuTech, I had my doubts. I wondered if the niche I was stepping into was too small or if my services would resonate. Looking back, my hesitation feels almost silly. StuTech has become more than just a business—it’s a way to give back to my community, to make people’s lives a little easier, and to form meaningful connections.
There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping someone video call their grandkids for the first time, troubleshoot a stubborn printer, or simply feel less intimidated by technology. Every time someone says, “You made my day,” I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
It’s funny how life comes full circle. Back in my Just Technical Solutions days, I was focused on solving IT problems for businesses. Now, with StuTech, I’m still solving problems, but I’ve discovered the joy of doing it in a way that’s personal and fulfilling.
Helping seniors navigate the digital world has reminded me of the power of patience, kindness, and a good sense of humor. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade Doug’s moonshine stories or the laughs over a stubborn smart TV for anything.
To anyone out there considering a new venture but feeling unsure: take the leap. You might discover, like I did, that the path you’re hesitant to start is the one that will bring you the most joy.
Thank you to my neighbors and new friends for trusting me with your tech needs and welcoming me into your homes (and for keeping me well-hydrated along the way!). I’m so grateful to be part of this community, and I can’t wait to see where StuTech takes us next.
Until next week, keep working it!
